Olivia Griffiths: Fostering Community and Impact at NEIA
At New England Innovation Academy (NEIA), students are encouraged to explore their passions, engage with the world around them, and develop into compassionate, self-sufficient leaders. A significant part of this journey is shaped by the work of Olivia Griffiths, NEIA’s Student Life Coordinator & Community Impact Coordinator. With a background in publishing and academia, along with international experience in South Korea, Olivia brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to her dual roles, ensuring that students have both a vibrant residential life and opportunities to make a meaningful impact on their communities.
A Passion for Student Life and Community Building
As someone who attended boarding school herself, Olivia deeply understands the importance of creating a supportive and engaging environment for students living away from home. “I know what it’s like to be in their shoes,” Olivia shares. “Boarding school is such a unique experience—it challenges you to be independent but also teaches you how to build lifelong relationships.”
At NEIA, residential life goes beyond dorm rooms and study halls. Olivia works tirelessly to create a sense of belonging, whether through late-night study sessions, community meals, or fun activities that bring students together. “We want students to feel that this is their home away from home,” she says. “They should feel supported, challenged, and empowered to take ownership of their experience here.” From organizing community-building events to ensuring students have the resources they need to thrive, Olivia plays a crucial role in shaping the residential experience at NEIA.
Empowering Students to Create Change
Beyond student life, Olivia is also deeply invested in NEIA’s commitment to community impact. As the community service coordinator, she helps students engage with causes that matter to them, fostering a sense of responsibility and a desire to give back. “I want to empower the kids and really make them aware of how privileged their position is and how they can use it for the greater good,” she explains.
With Olivia’s help, NEIA students have participated in a variety of service projects, including working with Project New Hope to support veterans, partnering with New Horizons Senior Center, and fundraising for animal welfare initiatives. These experiences allow students to see firsthand how they can make a difference. “It’s not just about logging service hours,” Olivia emphasizes. “It’s about fostering a mindset of empathy and action. I want them to understand that even small efforts can have a big impact.”
Creating a Lasting Impact
Whether she’s mentoring students in the residential program or helping them find ways to serve their communities, Olivia is dedicated to making NEIA a place where students feel connected, valued, and inspired to grow. “We are building something really special here,” she reflects. “NEIA is a place where students can learn not just academic skills, but life skills—how to collaborate, how to lead, and how to contribute to something bigger than themselves.”
Through her leadership and passion, Olivia Griffiths is shaping a student experience that is dynamic, inclusive, and purpose-driven. As NEIA continues to grow, her work ensures that students not only feel at home but also develop into thoughtful, engaged citizens ready to make an impact in the world.
