What did you want to be at 15, and how close did you get?
A teacher, and I got there eventually, at age 41.
Which teacher do you still think about, and why?
I still think about a mentor and longtime science teacher, a generation older than me, who not only helped me grow as an educator but also became an inspiring elder and guide. He taught me that the most important thing about teaching isn’t the curriculum or the philosophy, it’s this: “Your best teaching comes from your best self within, no matter the subject you are teaching.”

BACKGROUND
Mr. Chuck Claus has worked as a Materials Applications Engineer for two of the country’s largest aircraft engines companies, helping to both resolve manufacturing and quality problems, as well as working on a team to develop and transition new classes of materials into production applications (e.g. ceramic matrix composites to replace metal alloys). Transitioning to teaching, Mr. Claus has taught middle and high school math and science for twenty years, as well as directed youth choirs and musical theater. He bring this combination of engineering, teaching, and music, integrated and experiential, to NEIA.
