Creative Classroom with John Spencer
NEIA is proud to announce that our own Ben Farrell, Assistant Head of School and Director of Upper School, was recently featured on the “Creative Classroom” podcast with John Spencer. The podcast explores innovative approaches to teaching and learning and features interviews with educators, researchers, and thought leaders.
In the episode, Farrell shares NEIA’s unique approach to integrating conversational AI, specifically ChatGPT, into the school’s curriculum. Rather than banning the technology outright, NEIA engaged students in critical conversations about the ethics and implications of AI. By doing so, students were able to explore the potential benefits and drawbacks of conversational AI, including issues related to privacy, accuracy, and bias.
Ben’s approach to AI reflects NEIA’s commitment to human-centered design thinking. At NEIA, educators and students are empowered to think creatively and critically about emerging technologies and to consider the implications of those technologies for society as a whole.
The “Creative Classroom” podcast is just one example of the many ways that NEIA is contributing to the conversation about innovative approaches to teaching and learning. As the nation’s first human-centered design middle and high school, NEIA is committed to fostering a culture of innovation and creativity that prepares students for success in a rapidly changing world. This spring, NEIA will host a student-driven conversation around generative AI that will result in a trends report for our community. The event will bring together student leaders from schools around the area and will feature Kathleen Kennedy (Senior Director, MIT Horizon; Executive Director, MIT Center for Collective Intelligence; Venture Partner, Good Growth Capital) as a guest speaker and Marlborough Major Arthur G. Vigeant.
We are proud of Ben’s contribution to the podcast and look forward to continuing to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning at NEIA.
