What did you want to be at 15, and how close did you get?

I wanted to be a wildlife photographer when I was 15. I didn’t get close to that dream but still love nature photography.

What was your first job, and what’s the part you still remember?

My first job was selling ice cream at a roadside cafe in Sofia, Bulgaria. I still remember fondly that I ate my favorite ice cream for lunch each day for free.

What could you give a 10-minute talk on with zero prep?

My train ride to Vienna, Austria, from Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1993. The train went through war zones.

In her 25 years as an educator, Dr. Suzanne Ashun has taught students from Grade 1 through adulthood in public, private, and international schools across three continents and in two languages. Her teaching journey has taken her from South Carolina to Kuwait, China, Kenya, Utah, and Hawaii. At NEIA, she draws on her diverse cultural experiences to better understand the experiences of non-native English speakers and support English learners as they strengthen their language skills, build confidence, and find their voice both in and beyond the classroom.

Outside of school, Dr. Ashun is writing a memoir and enjoys reading, writing, traveling, cooking, dancing, art, nature, and photography.
