What was your first job, and what’s the part you still remember?
My first job after college was college admissions recruiting. I still believe it’s one of the best jobs you can have just after graduation. I learnt to think on my own feet, tailored a message to a plethora of different audiences, and made sound judgements. It also requires me to regularly confront my biases and work toward access and equity in an environment that is not necessarily conducive to those things.
Which teacher do you still think about, and why?
Ms. Whitehead, my 5th grade language arts teacher. She taught me to diagram sentences, which put structure around the technicalities of English grammar. Once I could visualize the structure, my writing got significantly better.
If you were the CEO of a company which would it be?
I’d be CEO of a travel company that specializes in hidden places all over Europe that go beyond the typical 10-day “see the sights” trip.

BACKGROUND
Ms. Jenni Franklin has spent her entire career working with students as they discern their next steps after high school. She has worked in college admissions for both public and private universities and has also worked as a college counselor in high schools in the US and Europe. Despite the stress and expectations surrounding post-high school planning, Ms. Franklin believes that when this process is approached with intention and care, it can be an incredible opportunity for reflection, growth and self-awareness for students. Even after twenty years in this profession, Jenni’s enjoyment remains in daily interactions with students and the opportunity to play a part in helping them flourish.
