The New England Innovation Academy (NEIA), the first human-centered design middle and high school in the U.S., announced today that it will partner with Babson Academy for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurial Learning at Babson College to offer a selection of entrepreneurship classes to students in grade 9 and 10. Babson@NEIA will focus on building an entrepreneurial mindset to create a foundation for future learning.

A global authority in entrepreneurship education, Babson Academy leads the way in educating faculty of all kinds in how to teach entrepreneurship.

As a result of this partnership, NEIA’s students will learn to navigate uncertainty and communicate effectively with their peers. Through a series of simulations, they will develop the confidence to present their ideas in a concise and compelling manner. This series of lessons will focus on entrepreneurial thought and action, opportunity identification, business models, and power pitching.

“Our students learn to design meaningful solutions for others through the Innovation Studio,” said Matt Kressy, Head of Innovation & Trustee at NEIA. “The experience doesn’t end there. Through entrepreneurship, students will learn how to make their ideas accessible to others and navigate the process of scaling their innovation. This is a transformative experience and one that many people won’t experience in a lifetime, so to offer it in middle and high school is truly unique.”

Babson College will draw on the expertise of its faculty from multiple disciplines to develop the content areas and deliver the instruction in the classroom. The experience complements NEIA’s Innovation Studio by helping students understand and utilize an entrepreneurial mindset as they think about bringing their own products and solutions to market. Students will receive a certificate of completion from Babson Academy after taking this series of classes.

“We are excited to engage with NEIA and to support learners as they aspire to become entrepreneurial leaders of the future, said Amir Reza, Dean of Babson Academy and Global Education at Babson College. “This is a unique opportunity to bring Babson’s faculty to facilitate NEIA’s goals in creating transformative learning experiences for their students and is aligned with Babson Academy’s mission to inspire learners to think and act more entrepreneurially.”

NEIA’s curriculum offers a holistic approach to learning, one that balances and enriches interdisciplinary learning through integrated projects, exciting problem solving, active student engagement, and coaching from skilled instructors with disciplinary knowledge.
