What’s the best idea you’ve never done anything with?
I started to build a Jane Austen video game, but never finished.
What did you want to be at 15, and how close did you get?
I wanted to be a writer, a teacher, and a parent, and I basically did all of that! But I might have also wanted to be a movie star, which didn’t happen.
What did you do prior to joining NEIA that has nothing to do with education?
I was in an all-girl rock band AND a feminist poetry collective

BACKGROUND
Dr. Caolan Madden has been teaching for seventeen years, in settings ranging from second grade to college. In courses in English literature, multimedia composition, creative writing, and gender studies, Dr. Madden emphasizes collaboration within and beyond the classroom, and finds opportunities for students to bring their individual passions and expertise to their study of the humanities, whether that’s creating a podcast about their work in a hospital, translating a poem from their home language into English, or writing an essay comparing the songs of Taylor Swift to the philosophy of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. When she’s not teaching, Dr. Madden loves drawing, decorating sugar cookies, and playing video games with her husband and two daughters.
