- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of learning differences, how they appear in and out of academic settings, and effective instructional strategies.
- Experience with or training in Wilson Reading System, Orton-Gillingham, or Multisensory Math is a plus.

The Learning Specialist works closely with the Wellbeing Team at NEIA to provide
individualized academic support to students who have learning differences. The learning specialist works with an assigned caseload of students, both one-on-one and in-class, to provide targeted academic support based on student learning profiles.
- Embodies NEIA’s principles of empathy, equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaboration in all work activities and actions.
● Provides one-on-one and small-group support/instruction for students, both in push-in and pull-out environments.
● Consults learning profiles to assist students with developing targeted learning strategies that support individual success. May include Executive Functioning coaching, support in Reading and Writing, and assistance with other academic subjects as needed.
● Helps struggling students to overcome or work around challenges that interfere with learning and develops the self-confidence and independence necessary to reach their potential.
● Reviews student records, psychoeducational testing, and sharing pertinent
information with classroom teachers.
● Uses a variety of assessment procedures to gather additional information necessary to determine appropriate interventions and programming.
● Maintains regular communication with the Wellbeing Team, teaching staff, and families to monitor academic progress; update learning profiles and/or notes as necessary.
● Works to build supportive and trusted relationships with students.
● Attends relevant meetings which may include Wellbeing meetings, meetings with parents, or meetings with outside providers.
● Teaches Executive Functioning classes to students in grades 7 and 9.
● Engages in ongoing professional learning and development per the school’s
professional growth framework.
● Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required by the position and the school.
