A self-described “boarding-school brat,” Allen is the son of a primary school teacher and the great-great grandson of the couple who founded Darlington School in Rome, Georgia; education runs in his blood. He has taught at five boarding schools on three continents, in subjects including acting, directing, musical theater, and theory of knowledge. He is passionate about helping schools transition from diversity language to true cultural inclusion.

What he’d whisper in the ear of his 15-year-old self
I ascribed to a lot of black-and-white thinking when I was younger; I didn’t allow myself the freedom to inhabit not knowing. I’d say, “Don’t be debilitated in moments of uncertainty. Find opportunity in those moments.”
